In our ever-changing and busy world, more and more of us are seeking different ways to enhance our quality of life. There are many factors that contribute to a healthy and happy life such as diet, exercise and managing stress. However how many people have considered the potential health benefits of travel?

Travel allows us the opportunity to expand our mind and the way we see the world. By exposing ourselves to different cultures and ways of life we learn a little bit more about ourselves and others around us. It can create stronger bonds in our relationships or even build new ones. Along with these benefits, it may even prolong our life.

According to the findings of the Helsinki Businessmen study which originally began researching in the 1960s, there were some interesting findings when they conducted follow up studies. When the data was compared between the two study groups, it was found that men who improved their lifestyle but shortchanged their vacations had a higher mortality rate than the intervention group who also improved their lifestyle but took vacations lasting three weeks or more.

While the research is still ongoing, the prescription of traveling for greater wellbeing is not such a bitter pill to swallow. So why not start planning your next adventure to greater health?
