Come along on a fascinating tour through Germany! Our tour starts in the Bavarian countryside, highlighted by a trip to Oberammergau for the world-famous Passion Play. Continuing through Germany, we’ll follow the journeys of Martin Luther and Johann Sebastian Bach. Get to know them, the places that they lived and the times in which they lived. We’ll travel through one of the most cultural landscapes in German and European history. We’ll also explore the German capital city of Berlin and its evolution from communism to democracy. A wonderful tour that will be a very memorable experience!

Itinerary
Day 1: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 / Departure Day
Today we meet our fellow travelers at the airport to begin our journey filled with new and exciting experiences.
Day 2: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3 / Arrive Munich
Upon arrival in Munich, we’ll have an orientation bus tour before checking into our hotel and enjoying our special Welcome Dinner at the world’s most famous tavern, The Hofbrauhaus, where we will be treated to Bavarian musicians and dancers. (D)
Day 3: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4 / Munich
This morning we’ll have a walking tour of the Bavarian capital. We’ll visit Nymphenburg Palace, the historic Glockenspiel on the Marienplatz, Frauenkirche and more. We’ll have the afternoon on our own to explore or rest with a good cup of coffee. (B,D)
Day 4: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 / Augsburg - Oberammergau
After breakfast, we’ll drive to Augsburg and enjoy a walking tour of this interesting city before carrying on to Oberammergau. Augsburg was Germany’s business center in the 16th century and home of the Fugger family who had a hand in a movement that lead to the Reformation. (B,D)
Day 5: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 / Passion Play (
This is the day that we get to experience the original Passion Play – held every 10 years, and performed only by the inhabitants of Oberammergau. (B,D)
Day 6: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 / Nuremburg–Eisenach
Today we head north to Eisenach, stopping en-route in Nuremburg for lunch and a walking tour. We’ll see the famous Imperial Castle and many other architectural and artistic highlights of this historic city. Martin Luther began his journey to Rome in 1510 from here. In the afternoon we will travel to Eisenach and enjoy the rest of the day at our leisure. (B,D)
Day 7: TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 / Eisenach
Wartburg, one of the most important castles in German history is on our list of stops today. We will also visit Lutherhaus, where Luther lived as a student, followed by Bachhaus, the birthplace of famous composer Johann Sebastian Bach. (B,D)
Day 8: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 / Dresden–Leipzig
An excursion takes us to the city of Dresden, on the Elbe river. We will visit Zwinger Palace, attend an organ recital at Frauenkirche and visit Brühl’s Terrace before returning to our hotel in Leipzig. (B,D)
Day 9: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 / Eisleben – Halle Excursion
Today we’ll start with a walking tour of Eisleben.
We’ll visit Luther’s birth house and St. Peter and Paul, the church where Luther was baptized. Continuing on to Halle an der Saale, the birth place of Georg Friedrich Handel, we’ll visit Haendel-Haus, Market Church and experience organ music at the historic Reichel organ. (B,D)
Day 10: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 / Leipzig
This morning we’ll set out on a walking tour of Leipzig. We’ll visit Thomas Church where Bach was cantor for 27 years and is buried. We’ll pass through the Renaissance town hall, the New Town Hall, the University and Gewandhaus Concert Hall. We’ll have some free time for dinner on your own before enjoying a special treat in the evening - the Bach Cantatas at Saint Thomas’ Church. (B)
Day 11: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 / Wittenberg – Berlin
This morning we depart Leipzig for Berlin.
We’ll stop along the way in Wittenberg for a guided walking tour. We’ll visit Luther House Wittenberg, Panorama Luther 1517 and see the Schlosskirche and Church of St. Mary. Upon arrival in Berlin, we’ll settle into our hotel and enjoy dinner before retiring for the night. (B,D)
Day 12: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 / Berlin
The morning will be ours to enjoy as we wish; attend a church service, enjoy some shopping or sit with for a nice breakfast with friends. The afternoon will offer a tour of Berlin including the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag parliament, Holocaust Memorial, Dom Cathedral, the Berlin Wall and the official Wall Memorial Site at Bernauer Strasse. (B)
Day 13: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 14 / Potsdam Excursion
Our excursion today will take us to Potsdam, where we’ll have a tour of Sanssouci Castle, once the summer home of Frederick the Great, former King of Prussia. We’ll have a guided tour of Potsdam before returning to Berlin for an afternoon of free time. We’ll gather this evening for a farewell dinner. (B,D)
Day 14: TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 / Return to Canada
This morning we will transfer to the airport for our return flight home, excited to share our experiences and our memories with friends and family (B)
