We all love to visit new destinations, but long days of travel can be tough and can affect the first day or two of our tour.
We’ve got 7 tips for you to help you arrive feeling refreshed and ready to see the sights.
1 GET IN THE ZONE After take off, organize all the items you’ll need during the flight, recline the seat, lower the table tray and prepare to sleep. Do not eat, do not read, do not watch a movie, do not think about the time or if you remembered to turn the oven off. Do nothing but sleep.
2 USE NOISE-CANCELLING HEADPHONES OR EARPLUGS If music isn’t your thing, simply block out noise and other distractions with a good pair of noise-cancelling headphones or earplugs.
3 LEAN BACK AND FORWARD Sleeping while sitting upright can be difficult, especially if you end up in the middle seat. Therefore, make the most of the space around you. Recline your seat and lie back. When it’s time to reposition yourself, lean forward on the lowered table tray. Leaning forward keeps you in your own space and allows you to spread your arms out. You can also use a neck pillow to keep your neck supported while you sleep.
4 DRESS COMFORTABLY Wear layers so you can adjust to the cabin’s climate setting. Wear shoes you can slip off easily and take your shoes off when nap time comes; bring a thick pair of socks to keep your feet warm.
5 PACK SNACKS Many people sacrifice sleep out of fear of missing the in-flight meal. Pack a few filling snacks such as nuts, dried fruit, a sandwich or eat in the airport before you board. When you’re no longer concerned about the meal service, you’ll be able to relax and sleep.
6 TELL YOUR NEIGHBOURS YOU PLAN TO SLEEP Your seatmates will leave you alone and can discourage the flight attendants from disturbing you while you sleep.
7 CAN’T SLEEP? KEEP YOUR EYES CLOSED Sometimes sleep just doesn’t want to come, but that’s no reason to give in and watch some terrible movie. If you can’t sleep, you can rest. Leave
your eyes shut and lay back. Often you will fall asleep and even if you don’t, you’ll be more rested than if you remained fully alert. Sleep masks can help you keep you block out light and keep your eyes closed and rested.
